Background
Marvelous Nakamba was born on 19 January 1994 in Hwange, located near Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. He spent his childhood in Bulawayo, living in a one-bedroom home with his younger brother, Junior. His father, Anthony, was a football player who served as a goalkeeper for Hwange Colliery F.C.. His mother, Charity, worked as a maid in South Africa and funded the purchase of Nakamba's first pair of football boots by working overtime. Nakamba completed his secondary education at Njube High School in Bulawayo. In 2020, he married Chipo Primrose Makurumure.
Club Football Career
Nakamba began his senior football career at the age of 16, debuting for the local Zimbabwean team Bantu Rovers in 2010. In December 2012, he transferred to the French club AS Nancy. After spending time on the reserve team, he made his professional debut for Nancy in May 2014.
In August 2014, Nakamba signed a four-year contract with Vitesse in the Netherlands. During his tenure, Vitesse won the KNVB Beker Cup in 2017. In June 2017, he transferred to the Belgian side Club Brugge on a four-year deal for a fee of approximately £4 million. Nakamba won the Belgian First Division A title with Club Brugge during the 2017–18 season.
Nakamba moved to the English Premier League on 1 August 2019, signing with Aston Villa for a fee of €12 million. He made his Premier League debut the following month. In December 2021, he suffered a knee injury that required surgery and an extended recovery period.
In January 2023, Nakamba was loaned to EFL Championship team Luton Town. He was part of the squad that secured promotion to the Premier League through the 2023 playoffs. Luton Town subsequently signed Nakamba to a permanent, three-year deal in July 2023. On 2 February 2026, Nakamba's contract with Luton Town was mutually terminated after he had made 61 appearances for the club. On the same day, he signed with the Championship side Sheffield Wednesday for the remainder of the season. Since the start of 2026, his playing time has been largely limited to appearances from the bench.
International Career
Nakamba is a member of the Zimbabwe national team, having initially represented the country at the under-20 and under-23 levels. He made his debut for the senior squad on 13 June 2015 as a substitute in a match against Malawi. He has been part of Zimbabwe's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squads for the 2017, 2019, and 2021 tournaments. He was also called up to the squad for the 2025 AFCON. During the AFCON tournament in early 2026, Nakamba faced public criticism following an error in the group stage. He has stated that he intends to continue representing the national team despite the scrutiny.
Off-Pitch Activities
In March 2020, Nakamba founded the Marvelous Nakamba Foundation, an organization focused on assisting young people in Zimbabwe. Through the foundation, he has funded tuition fees for underprivileged students and established a youth football tournament. In June 2022, the foundation commenced construction on a multi-sports complex in Bulawayo. Outside of his charitable work, Nakamba has purchased luxury vehicles, such as a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ in 2021, and has been seen driving a Mercedes Benz CLA-250 Coupe and a Brabus 800 Widestar.
