Early Life and Education

Uebert Angel (born Uebert Madzanire on September 6, 1978, in Masvingo, Zimbabwe) is a British-Zimbabwean religious leader, businessman, and former diplomat. His father, Samson Madzanire, passed away in May 2016, and his mother, Rose Madzanire, died in December 2021.

Angel completed his tertiary education in the United Kingdom. His academic qualifications include two degrees in finance, one of which is a Bachelor of Science in Business Finance from Salford University, a post-graduate qualification in education from the University of Bolton and a Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship from the University of Edinburgh.

Religious Ministry

In 2007, Angel founded Spirit Embassy Ministries in Manchester, England. In October 2015, the ministry rebranded to the Good News Church, retaining Spirit Embassy as the umbrella entity for his overall ministry. Over the years, the ministry expanded globally, establishing tens of branches across Europe, Africa, and North America.

Angel operates broadcasting networks, including Miracle TV and GoodNews TV, to air his sermons and ministry programming. He is also the founder and president of the Osborn Institute of Theology, an online Bible school established in 2012. As an author, Angel has written several books on topics related to Christian living, prayer, and finances, including Supernatural Power of the Believer, Praying for the Impossible, and How to Become a Millionaire in Real Estate.

Business Activities

Angel’s commercial ventures began in 2005 with Club Millionaire Limited, a concierge service in the United Kingdom. He later transitioned into real estate development, property sales, and building acquisition. In 2008, he established Sam Barkeley Construction and formed The Angel Organisation as a parent entity for his commercial interests.

His business portfolio includes various ventures across finance, property, and media, including interests in Brits Money (a registered banking venture) and Atom Mobile. He also established the Millionaire Academy, which offers instruction on entrepreneurship. In Zimbabwe, his real estate projects include the development of the 6,400-seater Harare Hippodrome conference center and the adjacent Beethoven Hotel.

Diplomatic Roles

In March 2021, President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed Angel as Zimbabwe’s Presidential Envoy and Ambassador-at-Large to Europe and the Americas. The role was tasked with seeking trade and investment opportunities for Zimbabwe.

In July 2023, Angel was appointed Ambassador for Interfaith Dialogue and Humanitarian Affairs for the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) of the African Union. In August 2023, the acting president of the PAP relieved Angel of this post, citing procedural irregularities regarding his initial appointment.

Philanthropy

Angel and his wife, Beverly Angel, manage humanitarian initiatives through the Uebert Angel Foundation and the Free Earth Humanitarian Organisation. Through programs such as the "Adopt a Family" scheme, the foundation provides monthly groceries to vulnerable families and covers school tuition fees for students in Africa and Asia. His charitable projects also include running a soup kitchen for the elderly in Harare and financing school fees for local primary schools in Zimbabwe.

Angel has been involved in a number of public controversies and legal disputes:

  • Property and Financial Disputes: In 2014, a lawsuit was filed in Zimbabwe by Ndabazinengi Shava, who accused Angel of swindling him out of a Bentley vehicle valued at US$300,000. Angel denied the claims, stating the vehicle had been legally purchased by his brother. An arrest warrant related to the summons was later cancelled in February 2016.
  • Al Jazeera Documentary: In March 2023, Angel was featured in an undercover documentary by news network Al Jazeera titled Gold Mafia, which alleged involvement in gold smuggling and money laundering schemes in Zimbabwe. Angel’s legal team denied the allegations, stating he was playing along with undercover reporters after suspecting they were not genuine investors. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) initially froze his assets during an investigation before clearing him of wrongdoing.
  • Legal and Sexual Assault Allegations: In 2024, a report was filed at Borrowdale Police Station in Harare alleging indecent sexual assault by Angel, an allegation that remains a subject of public attention and reporting.

As of July 2026, Uebert Angel was ranked #4 on the list of most followed Zimbabweans on Instagram.
