Harare Institute of Technology The Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) is a Zimbabwean university established in 1988 as a National Vocational Training Centre later offering degrees by 2005.

Read more about the institution in this biography.CUT started as Chinhoyi Technical Teachers' College in 1991. It was initially established to train technical teachers for Zimbabwe's secondary schools. In 1999, the college began to offer degree programs with help from the University of Zimbabwe, mainly in Production Engineering and Hospitality and Tourism. The institution gained university status in December 2001 through legislation, officially becoming Chinhoyi University of Technology. The university was inaugurated in November 2003, setting the stage for its growth in higher education.
The first Vice-Chancellor was Professor Charles Muchemwa Nherera. Since 2006, the Vice-Chancellor has been Professor David J. Simbi, a metallurgical engineer with experience in higher education and research. The Chancellor, by law, is the President of Zimbabwe. As of 2024, President Emmerson Mnangagwa holds this position.
CUT is located in Chinhoyi, approximately 120 kilometers northwest of Harare, in Mashonaland West Province. The university’s main campus is in the town of Chinhoyi and serves students across Zimbabwe and other African countries. It offers academic and residential facilities, although on-campus accommodation is mostly for first-year and final-year students. Off-campus housing options are available nearby, with the university maintaining a registry of approved accommodation.

Each school provides undergraduate and postgraduate programs in its field. Entrance requirements generally include five 'O' Level passes (including English and Mathematics) and at least two 'A' Level passes.
As of 2025, undergraduate fees for the School of Natural Sciences range from US$509 to US$677 depending on the year of study. There are additional fees for applications (US$15 local, US$50 international). Payments can be made in US Dollars or Zimbabwe's ZIG currency, through major local banks.
CUT has developed research activity, particularly in the biological sciences. Its research output includes publications and collaborative projects, mostly with international partners. The university is also developing innovation hubs and supporting the commercialization of research, in line with Zimbabwe’s “Education 5.0” policy.
