Roosevelt Girls High School is a government-run secondary school for girls located in Eastlea, a suburb of Harare, Zimbabwe. The school was established in 1950 and named after Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States. It was originally founded during the colonial era and has continued to operate under Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
The school is situated on Nigel Philip Avenue in Eastlea, Harare. It operates both as a boarding and day school. The campus includes classrooms, laboratories, a library, sports fields, and boarding hostels named Delano and Eleanor. There is also a greenhouse and vegetable garden for agriculture learning.
Roosevelt Girls High School follows the Zimbabwean national curriculum (ZIMSEC) and offers both Ordinary Level (O-Level) and Advanced Level (A-Level) education. Subjects include sciences, arts, commercial studies, agriculture, home economics, and information communication technology. The school also offers the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) for digital skills certification.
Students take part in a variety of clubs and sports such as debate, drama, public speaking, netball, hockey, and basketball. Environmental awareness and sustainability programs are also part of the school culture. In 2019, Roosevelt participated in the national Green Schools Quiz.
Roosevelt Girls High has a record of good academic performance. Its A-Level pass rate has remained above 95% in recent years, including a 100% pass rate in 2024. The school has also been ranked among the top government schools in Harare.
In 2021, a fire incident damaged part of the school’s boarding facilities. Efforts to rebuild were supported by alumni and the school community. In 2025, reports of alleged mismanagement and financial irregularities at the school were investigated by education authorities.
