Southern Africa Methodist University (SAMU) is a planned private university in Zimbabwe. The idea for the university was introduced by the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe (MCZ). The church received approval to start working on the university project around 2014. The aim was to create an institution that combines academic learning with Christian values.
The university is expected to be built at Waddilove Farm, near Marondera, in Mashonaland East Province. The university’s administrative offices are located at the corner of Third Street and Selous Avenue in Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe.
SAMU is being established as a private Christian university, managed by the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe. It plans to operate as an inclusive institution, accepting students from all backgrounds, regardless of race, gender, religion, or disability.
SAMU’s mission is to provide higher education that supports the intellectual, spiritual, and professional growth of students. The university’s vision is to promote transformation and development in Southern Africa through quality learning guided by Christian values.
Although the university is still under development, several academic faculties have been proposed. These include:
The programmes are expected to cover both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, focusing on practical and developmental fields.
The university is working towards accreditation from the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE). As of the latest updates, SAMU has not yet started enrolling students. Construction of the first campus is ongoing, and further announcements are expected once official approval is granted.
