Bradley High School is a mixed-gender secondary school located in Bindura, Mashonaland Central, Zimbabwe. It is run by the Salvation Army and operates as a boarding school. The school is part of a group of mission schools that were built by Christian churches in Zimbabwe during the colonial period.
Bradley High School was started in 1926 by Major James and Captain Bennett, who were members of the Salvation Army. It was first called Bradley Institute and began as a boys’ school. Over time, it expanded to include both boys and girls and started offering more academic and technical subjects.
The school faced some challenges during its early years. In 1964, it was closed because of water shortages. It reopened in 1966 after new water wells were drilled. Another closure happened between 1976 and 1980 due to the war in Zimbabwe. After independence, the school opened again as a secondary school offering Form 1 to Form 4 classes.
Since reopening, Bradley High School has grown in size and academic programs. It also offers A-Level classes, which are the final two years of high school in Zimbabwe.
Bradley High School has been ranked among the top schools in the country for its academic results. In some years, it has recorded pass rates of more than 85% at O-Level and over 90% at A-Level. This places the school in national rankings along with other well-known mission schools like Howard and Mazowe High Schools.
The school follows the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) curriculum and prepares students for national exams.
The school provides boarding facilities for students. It has classrooms, dormitories, and sports fields. Because it is a mission school, religious values are part of daily life. Students attend church services and religious lessons.
In the past, the school also trained students in practical subjects like carpentry and agriculture, especially when it operated as a technical institute. Some of these programs still exist alongside the academic subjects.
Bradley High School is under the control of the Salvation Army Church in Zimbabwe. The church helps manage the school’s budget, teachers, and infrastructure. The school also works with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
