    Background

    Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) is a public university in Zimbabwe. It was established in 2016 through an Act of Parliament to provide higher education focused on applied sciences. The university is based in Mutare, the capital of Manicaland Province. Its purpose is to support Zimbabwe’s development by offering programmes related to agriculture, mining, technology, and business.

    Administration

    As with other public universities in Zimbabwe, the President of Zimbabwe, currently Emmerson Mnangagwa, serves as the Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor, who manages the university’s daily operations, is Professor Albert Chawanda.

    Motto and Vision

    MSUAS aims to provide practical education that can solve real problems. It focuses on training students to apply knowledge in science, technology, and commerce. The university also supports research that helps the local economy.

    Faculties and Programmes

    The university has four main faculties:

    • Engineering – including Mining, Metallurgy, and Chemical & Processing Engineering
    • Applied Science and Technology – offering degrees in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Data Analytics
    • Agribusiness and Commerce – with programmes in Accounting, Tourism, and Agribusiness
    • Applied Social Sciences – including Psychology and Human Resource Management

    These programmes are designed to address Zimbabwe’s national development needs.

    Admission

    Students applying to MSUAS must have five O-Level subjects including English and Mathematics, plus relevant A-Level subjects. The university accepts local and international students, with separate application fees.

    Student Life

    Students at MSUAS can take part in clubs and academic societies. The university also provides healthcare services, counseling, and career support. It encourages innovation, entrepreneurship, and technical skills development.
