Marondera University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (MUAST) is a public institution of higher learning in Zimbabwe. It was officially established in 2015 through an Act of Parliament and became operational as an independent university in 2017. MUAST evolved from the University of Zimbabwe’s Marondera College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. The university was created to address the need for specialised training in agriculture and applied sciences in Zimbabwe.
The university is located in Marondera, a town in Mashonaland East Province, approximately 75 kilometres east of Harare. MUAST operates across multiple sites, including the Dozmery Campus, CSC Campus, and the developing main campus at Cloverhill Farm, which spans over 789 hectares.
Like other public universities in Zimbabwe, the President of Zimbabwe serves as the Chancellor. The university is managed by a Vice Chancellor, supported by academic and administrative staff who oversee day-to-day operations and academic programmes.
The university focuses on agricultural innovation, research, and the application of science and technology. Its vision is to offer practical and sustainable solutions to agricultural challenges in Zimbabwe and beyond. MUAST combines teaching, research, and community outreach to improve food systems, farming technologies, and rural development.
MUAST has several faculties that offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. These include:
Programmes offered include degrees in Animal Science, Crop Production, Horticulture, Food Processing, Geographic Information Science, Agribusiness Management, and Engineering related to agriculture. The university also offers master's and doctoral degrees in selected fields.
Since opening its doors in 2013 with just 20 students, the university has grown steadily. By 2024, it had more than 500 students enrolled across various programmes. MUAST supports agricultural research and development, operating projects such as irrigation schemes and agro-industrial initiatives that aim to boost food production and promote rural livelihoods.
Students are admitted based on A-Level qualifications, with emphasis on science-related subjects. International students must meet equivalent standards assessed by Zimbabwe’s accreditation authority.
MUAST's campuses include lecture blocks, research laboratories, student hostels, engineering workshops, and an agro-industrial park. The institution is also developing infrastructure to support innovation in farm mechanisation, irrigation, and food processing.
