Background

Solusi University is a private institution of higher learning located about 50 kilometers southwest of Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. The university traces its history back to 1894, starting as Solusi Mission, which was established after Cecil Rhodes donated land to the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Solusi is recognized as the first Adventist mission in Africa and has a strong educational heritage rooted in Christian values.

Establishment and Development

  • Charter: Became an official university in 1994 after being granted a parliamentary charter by the Government of Zimbabwe, making it the country's first private university.
  • Growth: Solusi transitioned from a mission school to a college in the 1950s. In 1984, the university partnered with Andrews University, USA, which contributed to significant growth in enrollment and academic offerings.

Solusi University is set on a 12,000-acre rural campus in Matabeleland North province.
